On April 7, 2026, Anthropic announced a new AI model called Mythos and unlike most AI launches, this one didn’t come with a public rollout. It came with a warning. Anthropic’s own team described the model as “too powerful to be released to the public,” citing its extraordinary ability to find and exploit vulnerabilities in software across every major operating system and every popular browser, at a scale no AI had ever achieved before.

 

That’s a headline built for the cybersecurity world. But if you run a business, a brand, or a social media presence, this is your headline too.

So what exactly is Mythos?

Think of Mythos as an AI with the skills of the world’s best hacker, only faster, more tireless, and operating at a scale no human team could match. In controlled tests, it identified critical flaws across widely-used software, with 99% of those vulnerabilities still unpatched. The UK’s AI Security Institute found it could complete expert-level hacking tasks 73% of the time, tasks that just a year ago no AI could attempt at all.

 

Anthropic has restricted Mythos to a small circle of vetted partners including Microsoft, AWS, Google, and NVIDIA for defensive cybersecurity testing. But the cat is out of the bag. The model exists. Its capabilities are documented. And where there is one, others will follow.

Why social media is the soft underbelly

  1. Audit who holds your keys: Review every team member and third-party tool with access to your accounts. Remove what you don’t actively use.
  2. Enable 2FA everywhere: Two-factor authentication is the single highest-impact step most brands still haven’t taken on every platform.
  3. Watch for impersonation: Set up alerts for new accounts using your brand name or logo. AI-powered fakes are faster and more convincing than ever.
  4. Prune your app stack: Every third-party tool connected to your social accounts is a surface. Fewer integrations means fewer doors.
